A great read!

I liked all three books, but the first two were very good. Original and creative, titillating the imagination. By the end of the 3rd book though, situations were becoming a bit contrived. Still, a great series!

Extremely creative and original!

Wow, it's amazing that this book trumped the first book in this series! The story was built up in the first book; laying the groundwork and because of that, it was full throttle excitement in this one.

The only thing I will say is READ THIS SERIES! It's an extremely creative, original and unique take on science and Hell, and like always, Glenn Cooper masterfully blends several genres together to create an adsorbing story! It's full of great characters and there are constant twists and seemingly insurmountable odds that they have to face that keeps the reader on edge throughout the book. I can't get enough of this and eagerly anticipate diving into the third and final book this weekend. I give this one a 5/5 and my highest recommendation!

About the Author

Brandon LaBelle is an artist and writer working with sound culture and locational identities. His previous book, Background Noise: Perspectives on Sound Art, was published in 2006 by Bloomsbury Academic. Some may be original, but most have been collected from school chemistry departments and from the literature. Many of the ideas have come from more than one source. All the experiments have been compiled by Kevin Hutchings, The Royal Society of Chemistry Teacher Fellow 1997-98, and have been tested at the University of Sussex Institute of Education. They have subsequently been trialled in schools where they have worked in a classroom setting. The outcome is a concise set of guidelines for teachers and instructions and questions for students.

hands-on science

The only inconvenience I find is that the experiments
are written from the teacher point of view. But a lot
(or all) of them can be used in self-teaching or just
for fun; that should be remarked.
I write from Europe, where science manuals are been
replaced by Science divulgation, which librarians
classify between "religion" and "self-help". In this
ambience, books as this one give a refreshing air. We
need more of this.

About the Author

Neil Reid is a Solutions Engineer for 802.11 and fixed wireless systems at Cisco Systems. He has worldwide responsibilities for Systems Engineers engaged in network solutions that use various types of wireless technologies for Cisco Systems, Inc. He is an expert in wireless hardware and software including 802.11, 3.5 GHz ETSI radios, MMDS, LMDS Millimeter wave radios and UNII broadband fixed wireless systems, optical and storage networks and general enterprise and service provider internals. Neil released Broadband Fixed Wireless Networks, (Osborne/McGraw-Hill) in December 2001.

Ron Seide is the Product Line Manager in Cisco System’s Wireless Networking Business Unit. Ron brings to this project a unique perspective on the wireless LAN industry. At Cisco Systems, his job entails daily contact with Fortune 50 commercial enterprises, government institutions and universities who are in various stages of their wireless LAN deployment. He works regularly with technology resellers, consultants and other intermediate entities. Ron has first hand knowledge of the issues faced by these individuals, their concerns and their areas of interest.

Very boring writing style

Covers several areas which are not found in a lot of other books. However, at many places, it assumes that the reader has some basic knowledge. Completely lacks illustrations, examples, figures. The writing style is very boring - paragraph after paragraph without any structure to these. The information presented is definitely good and useful - but you gotta keep yourself awake !
All in all, I would NOT receommend this to anybody as a first book. I began with Jim Geir's book, and found that very good begin with. Actually a lot of the examples, figures in that book helped me understand many of the concepts mentioned in this book (sometimes in even greater detail). If the authors could improve upon the boring writing style and add some pictures to explain the concepts better - this book would be much better.

Good overview of wireless concepts

Gives a good overview and helps build a good foundation in wireless concepts. Authors are from Cisco, but its good to see no bias towards Cisco products in the book. Well-written. Highly recommended as a first book for anyone starting out in Wireless technologies.

To get a $60.00 book for a 0.01 was a steal especially it feels brand new. Though the book is dated and recent standards are not included it did the job for which I needed it. I got the book much earlier than anticipated.
