Great text for an introductory communications

I used this book for an Introduction to Communications class. This was a GenEd class that I wasn't really all that excited about initially, but found over time that I did enjoy quite a bit.

This book did a good job of explaining some of the basic theories of communications, and did a great job of relating them and making them relevant to the typical student. The sections on some of the various linguistic theories, and the sections on kinesics and proxemics were quite interesting. The sections on group communication contain information that virtually anyone could benefit from. The book is concise, but has a reasonable amount of depth for what one would expect in an introductory course. There are section summaries and reviews of terminology that I found to be very beneficial for quick reviews before exams.

Overall, this was a good text and fulfilled my needs for the course.

Great intro to Communications

This is a great introductory book to communications. It scratches the surface of the subject but still educates the reader in practically every area of communication such as: Preparing and outline for a speech, Manage Speech Anxiety, Informative Speaking, Persuasive Speaking and much more. I recommend this text for any student wishing to introduce themselves to the wonderful field of communications.

About the Author
Howard E. Taylor is a research chemist with the National Research Program, Water Resources Division, U.S. Geological Survey located in Boulder, Colorado. Dr. Taylor has played a major role over the past 25 years in the development of plasma spectrometric techniques in analytical chemistry, as reflected in his more than 150 technical publications and the presentation of numerous papers at national and international technical meetings. He has served as faculty affiliate at Colorado State University and has taught American Chemical Society Short Courses for more than 15 years.

A great book.

You know who your real friends are when they recommend you this book. This gem gives you a real appreciation for what is, unfortunately, the "old" - style of mathematics. Unlike the disasterous expositions in certain modern texts that will remain namesless - this text motivates all its topics with ample examples and doesn't beat you over the head with notation, jargon and arrogance. The topics are appropriate for a first course and for people that want to apply the material to their work or research right away.

sequel to the very commonly used first course

Karlin and Taylor wrote a classic text on stochastic processes in their "A First Course in Stochastic Processes". The second edition of that text was published in 1975.

This sequel came out in 1981. It is not only a second course but it is also intended as a second volume on a larger course in stochastic processes. The authors show that they are continuing from the first course by picking up with Chapter 10 after the first book ended with Chapter 9. Many of the topics in the first book are continued in this text including Markov chains and Diffusions. Heavy emphasis is placed on point processes and their applications including Poisson and compound Poisson processes, population growth models and queueing processes.

Completely Enjoyable

This is the second book I've read by Susan Johnson and it won't be my last. The author combines accurate historial detail (missing from so many historical romances)with a passionate and steamy love story. I much prefer the hero in this book to Adam Serre in Pure Sin. Adam never seemed to lose his cool reserve...while Johnnie falls head over heels for Elizabeth and the love between them is incredibly touching.
My only criticism of this book would be the hurried ending. The story seems to shift from J&E to his younger brother and Roxane (probably to pique interest for their book, To Please A Lady).
Highly recommended!

A beautiful love story

Do not believe the reviews that say this book is just about sex only! This book does have numerous hot, scorching love scenes, but that's only one of its good qualities. The hero is loyal, honorable, sincere, protective, stops at nothing to keep his heroine safe from harm & happy. About 1/2 way through the book, they declare their love for one another - this doesn't happen in most romances - in most of the ones I've read, the declaration of love is left for the last few pages of the book.

This book had a lot of historical detail, and it was clear to see that Susan Johnson put in time and effort on her historical tellings. The characters are people you care about, and I want to read Robbie's & Roxane's story very soon. It did not bother me that they were prominently featured in the last couple chapters of the book - at that point, Johnnie & Elizabeth weren't ready/able to have physical relations, so why not let Robbie & Roxane have a go at it? I thought it was brilliant.

Other characters I love are Redmond, Elizabeth's friend & former bodyguard, and Munro, Johnnie's cousin. I have no idea if either of these fellas has his own book or not, but I sure hope so!

Another thing I liked about this book was how Susan Johnson showed us that Johnnie was a hardened rake. She didn't just mention it in passing, she showed us scenes of him in the act. (And that role playing scene with one of his mistresses was super hot!). As far as Johnnie & Elizabeth's scorching love scenes went, I loved both the scenes with the dressmaker, the scene with the bedpost, and the scene with the jewel :)

This book had everything - romance, adventure, history, and erotic but not offensive love scenes. I didn't miss the fact that the book, for the most part, isn't technically 'funny'. If you are looking for an out & out humorous read, this isn't the book for you. And, this isn't a cookie cutter, milquetoast romance. This book was excellent, and on a scale of 1-10, it would be at least a 12 for me. Highly recommended. Earns its 5 stars and then some.

Sexy & Romantic!

This is ine of the best SJ novels I have read, in fact my favourite after Brazen.
Johnie has a hard time commiting to Elizabeth and fools around with a lot of women in the first half, but once he marries Liz, becomes a devoted and faithful husband, and the story turns very romantic.
The only problem I had was with the last part of the book, as the attention shifts to Johnie's brother and his lover, who are the protagonists of the sequel to this novel.
Other than that, the book was very erotic as well as romantic.

This booklet is a pathetic excuse for selling info which can be found inside the front/rear cover of any Calculus & Trig textbook.

Out of 200+ total pages... only 35 pages are devoted to 'Electrical Engineering', and that info is quite trivial for any EE/student.

That's right, MOST of this pocket book is nothing more than a rehash of Integral/Differential Calculus and Trig identities!

Frankly, I'm not sure how this thing made it past the editors at CRC and into print. Someone hoodwinked somebody.

Save your money and look elsewhere for a worthwhile and -practical- book of formulae. This thing is a JOKE.

For the Antiochenes, the term theoria did not mean allegory, but instead stood for a range of perceptions—prophetic, christological, and contemporary. It is in these insights that we find the deep wisdom to help modern readers interpret Scripture theologically.

This set takes me back to my college days in the late 1980's...sitting in the dorm lounge for hours, we had Car Wars as an alternative when we needed an Advanced Dungeons & Dragons break. This huge set combines several of the small, plastic boxed sets into one awesome megaset.

This is THE set to get. Amazing shape, and when you can find it like off the shelf new, the only thing missing here was the shrink wrap. This has everything from the little black boxed sets. Great artwork. Elegant yet complex as you want gameplay. Wayne's Book/Games is the only place I never worry about condition or shipping/packing. A++++.
