About the Author
A respected shamanic teacher in US and Britain, Merilyn Tunneshende has a Masters Degree in Spanish and Religion/Philosophy. In 1992 she was awarded a research grant from the National Endowment for Humanities to study Mayan Culture in Mexico. This coincided with her becoming seriously ill with AIDS so she went to Mexico to seek the ancient healing methods of Toltec shaman teachers in order to heal herself. Her first book, Medicine Dream tells her story.

What a joy!

Tunneshende has a way of making her incredible journey to Knowing an Everywoman experience. It is evident in her voice that she embodies the balanced, grounded sense of self required to undertake such a challenge in self-mastery and to pass it on to others for them to create their own. More impressive is that she accomplishes this feat in a beautifully feminine way without alienating her masculine aspects, or those of her readers. She also makes the Toltec shamanic tradition available to an audience that would otherwise miss out on such valuable teachings. The healing process described for sexual, thus spiritual, wellbeing delivers an intense lesson in dreamwalking, becoming aware of one's place in All, and in co-creating reality.

sexual lessons

I read this book many years ago, after having read all of Carlos Castenada's books. I found it extremely helpful in filling in the gaps which were missing from Carlos' journey concerning sexuality. I had always been curious to know what Don Juan had thought about our sexuality, and Tunneshende nicely answered my many questions. The tone was simple and entertaining, the plot freely-moving and enjoyable, and the meetings with Don Juan always spicy.

For anyone interested in shamanism, especially those who have followed Castaneda's insightful journeys across time and space, this is definitely an important read.

About the Author
Francisco Jiménez emigrated from Tlaquepaque, Mexico, to California, where he worked for many years in the fields with his family. He received both his master’s degree and his Ph.D. from Columbia University and is now the chairman of the Modern Languages and Literature Department at Santa Clara University, the setting of much of his newest novel, Reaching Out. He is the award-winning author of The Circuit, Breaking Through, and La Mariposa. He lives with his family in Santa Clara, California.

Just right for my level of Spanish

The Spanish version of this book was assigned reading for an adult Spanish class and is a good match for intermediate students. Senderos fronterizos is an interesting, sometimes poignant, personal experience about crossing the Mexican-American border, becoming an legal alien, and making ones way in a different culture. The story, although considered a "young adult" read, is an interesting story for adults who want a better understanding of what it means to change cultures. It made me want to learn more about Mr. Jimenez's experience, so I have since purchased the rest of the Trilogy. Learning to read in Spanish with the help of Mr. Jimenez is fun.

Es un muy bueno libro

No yo lo ponia abio. Es el sengundo parte de la autobiografia. El primero parte es "Cajas de carton" que es tambien un muy bueno libro. Los dos dicen el cuento de un joven muchacho y su famalia que venen a Califoria a hallar a mejor vida. Es muy triste en partes y muy divertido en otros. La familia tiene a muy dificil vida. Son muy pobre. Este cuento comienza cuando el escritor esta en el grado de ocho y termina cuando va a universidad. Pero mucho sucede entre. Leelo.
